How to integrate Doorsound with IFTTT

Note: Starting beginning of 2024, IFTTT requires a pro account for webhooks. This change is out of control and we are working on an alternative solution.

One of the features that makes Doorsound different is its flexibility to connect and work with third-party applications. You can connect your WiFi door contact sensor with hundreds of applications. One way (perhaps the most powerful and convenient way) to connect to third-party applications is using IFTTT. Best of all it is free!

What is IFTTT?

IFTTT stands for If This Then That. In other words, if there is a trigger, then do something. For example, as we will configure during this tutorial;

If the door is left open Then send a notification to my phone.

When the door is open or stayed open for a certain amount of time, you can trigger many more applications like receive emails, utilize Alexa skills, or Google apps. In this tutorial though, we will trigger IFTTT app notifications.

You can watch the below instruction video which is under 3 minutes. If you prefer to written instructions please continue to scroll down

There are two stages of this configuration.

  1. Let Doorsound tell IFTTT that the door is left open (This). For this we will be creating a “Webhook”.
  2. Have IFTTT send a notification to your phone (That). For that we will create an “Applet”.

Let’s get started!

Create and connect the webhook

  • Login to your IFTTT account or create a new one.
  • From the top menu go to “Explore”
  • In the search box start typing “Webhooks” and you will see two tabs. Applets and Services. Click on the “Services”.
  • Click on the service named “Webhooks
  • Hit the “Connect” button to activate the webhook.
  • On the right top corner, click on the “Settings” button to see your account info.
  • In the URL section, you will see your dedicated URL. The last part of the URL is your IFTTT key (see the yellow highlighted section below). That is the key you will need to enter while configuring the Doorsound, so please record the key.
get IFTTT key and enter the same key to Doorsound
Retrieve your IFTTT key in your Account Info page

Put the IFTTT key in the Doorsound configuration 3rd party settings field

Create the Applet and connect to the Webhook

  • Go to IFTTT’s home page and click on the “Create” button on the top right corner
  • You will create your own applet. Click the “Add” button next to the “If This”
  • In the search services box, search and select webhooks
  • Now the web page will ask you to choose a trigger. There is only one so click on the “Receive a web request” trigger
  • In the event name box, enter “doorsound_by_arka”. Please enter the phrase exactly the same and case sensitive.
  • Then hit “Create trigger”
  • Hit “Add” next to “Then That”
  • There are hundreds of applications you can trigger but in our case, we will only receive a notification so search for “notifications” and click on the service.
  • There are two actions for this service. Select “Send a notification from the IFTTT app”
  • Finally, let’s customize our message. Remove the pre-filled text in the message section.
  • Click on “Add ingredient” and select “value1” which will give you the device name configured on the Doorsound
  • Then customize the rest of the message as you wish or simply fill the field as shown below and click on “Create action”
  • On the next page click on “Continue” and then “Finish” at the next page.
Customize your IFTTT notification message

That is it! You successfully integrated your Doorsound with IFTTT to receive notifications. Now download the IFTTT app on your phone, login with your IFTTT account and you are ready to receive notifications from Doorsound.

Doorsound IFTTT integration is complete.
