How to integrate Doorsound with IFTTT
Note: Starting in early 2024, IFTTT will require a Pro account for using webhooks. While this change is beyond our control, we are actively working on alternative solutions to ensure seamless integrations for our users.
One of the standout features of Doorsound is its flexibility to connect with third-party applications. With our WiFi door contact sensor, you can integrate with hundreds of apps, enabling powerful and convenient automation. A key way to achieve this is through IFTTT (If This Then That).
With IFTTT, you can receive notifications on your phone, trigger smart devices, or even send emails—all based on the status of your door sensor.
What is IFTTT?
IFTTT stands for If This Then That. It’s a platform that connects triggers (“If This”) to actions (“Then That”). For example:
- If the door is left open for a certain amount of time, Then send a notification to my phone.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to use IFTTT to send app notifications when your door is left open. You can extend this functionality to include other actions, such as triggering Alexa routines or sending emails.
How to Set Up Doorsound with IFTTT
This process involves two stages:
- Create a Webhook to let Doorsound notify IFTTT about the door status.
- Set up an IFTTT Applet to send a notification to your phone.
Follow these steps or watch the instructional video below (under 3 minutes):
Stage 1: Create the Applet and Connect to the Webhook
- Visit IFTTT’s homepage and log in.
- Click the Create button at the top right.
- Under If This, click Add and search for Webhooks.
- Select the Receive a web request trigger.
- In the event name box, enter doorsound_by_arka (case-sensitive). Click Create Trigger.
- Under Then That, click Add, then search for Notifications.
- Select Send a notification from the IFTTT app.
- Customize your notification message:
- Use the Add Ingredient button to include value1 (this will display the Doorsound device name).
- Optionally, add your own text to the message, such as:
“Your [value1] door has been left open!”
- Click Create Action, then Continue, and finally Finish.
Stage 2: Create and Connect the Webhook
- In your IFTTT account, go to Explore.
- Search for Webhooks under the Services tab.
- Click Webhooks and hit the Connect button.
- Open Settings (top-right corner) to find your unique webhook URL.
- The final part of the URL is your IFTTT key. Note this key for configuring Doorsound.
- Open the Arka Innovation app and enter the IFTTT key while setting up the desired features.
That’s It!
